OBAMA BOMBS ON LETTERMAN WITH UNFUNNY TOP-10 LIST
[Reuters]
A clearly desperate Barack Obama turned to attempted humor to salvage his bid for the Democratic nomination that of late has been sinking under the weight of his remarks at a San Francisco $2,300 a person fundraiser and his association with anti-American preacher Jeremiah Wright.
Unfortunately, like many aspiring stand up comedians before him, the candidate from Chicago bombed, adding comedy to the list of activities to be avoided at all costs (like bowling).
In a satellite appearance on Letterman to be aired later tonight, Obama stuck with the tried and true “Top-10 List” shtick—ticking off 10 "Surprising Facts About Barack Obama".
The only problem: The list was not the least bit funny.
At No. 6 on his list was "Earlier today I bowled a 39," a reference to the gutter ball he threw at a "regular guy" campaign event at a bowling alley while campaigning in Pennsylvania.
Other clunkers on the list were: "When I tell my kids to clean their room, I finish with, 'I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message” and (at number 1) "I have not slept since October."
(The sound you just heard was an Obama speechwriter being thrown out of the 6th story window of Obama’s South Bend, Indiana hotel suite.)
Nor did the humor challenged Chicago senator try to take the edge off of his latest Reverend Wright troubles, instead avoiding the mention of anything more controversial than: “…what the heck is up with Paula Abdul?"
Our advice to the Senator: “don’t quit yer day job, kid.”
