NATIONAL POLL AVERAGES FAVOR CLINTON

The Real Clear Politics (RCP) average for all head to head national polls shows that Hillary Clinton beats both John McCain and Barack Obama by substantial margins.

According to the poll average, if the election were held today, Hillary Clinton would beat John McCain in a national head to head match up by 3.7 points.

However, several polls factored into the RCP average have Clinton winning against McCain by even larger margins. The Quinnipiac poll has Clinton beating McCain by 8 points, and the Strategic Vision (R) poll has Clinton beating McCain by 6.

The RCP average of polls for a head to head national match up between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has Clinton beating Obama by 7.8 points.

Several of the averaged polls however have Clinton beating Obama nationally by even larger margins. InsiderAdvantage gives Clinton a 10 point lead, and SurveyUSA has Clinton beating Obama in a national head to head match up by a whopping 18 points.

Obama loses not quite so bad against McCain in a national match up, but he still loses by an average 1.5 points.

Strategic Vision (R) gives McCain a 5 point lead over Obama
