Michelle Obama remains bitter and suspicious despite her and her husband's educational, financial, and political successes.
While campaigning at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University today Mrs. Obama accused unnamed forces of “raising the bar” every time her husband reaches another level of success.
"Barack has done what everybody said he couldn't do," she said.
But they had learned during the campaign, she said, that "we are still living at a time in a nation where the bar is set," and that when you work and struggle to reach the bar, "they move the bar."
This is, of course, a veiled charge of racism--even though she failed to specify who "they" are.
Michelle Obama also referred to herself and her husband as “working-class kids”, dispite the fact that the Obamas live in a Chicago mansion and the small matter of the annual Obama household income in excess of $900,000. ($1.7 million in 2005.)
.
Michelle Obama is a 1985 cum laude graduate of Princeton University, a 1988 graduate of Harvard Law School, a former associate dean at the University of Chicago, was a lawyer at Sidley & Austin LLP (one of the largest corporate law firms in the world) and is currently a vice president at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Michelle Obama sits on six boards, including the prestigious Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and Tree House Foods. And, of course, she is married to a United States senator with good odds to be the next President of the United States.
.
Just think what the Obamas could have achieved if "they" were not constantly "raising the bar" to her and her husband's success! The Obamas, by any measure, have achieved the pinnacle of professional, social, and economic success, and are living proof that America is a meritocracy and not the bastion of faceless discrimination to which she alludes.
